Work Experience for Schools - Sofia Griffiths

Nov 2022

This October half term, we had two school going young ladies join the practice for a week of work experience to learn all about Architecture and how it all works in practice.

Before they left we asked them some of the following questions and here are their responses:

Sofia Griffiths

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I attend Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School in Bridgend, currently in Year 12 and my favourite subject is Design and Technology.

Why did you choose to come to PDA for your work experience?

To understand and gain appreciation of the working environment and to get an insight of what occurs in an architectural office to decide if I wish to pursue this as a career.  Also to develop and gain new skills.

What have you worked on while with PDA?

I have been working on formulating a brief from a proposed task, creating floorplans and sketches and producing a 3D CAD model of my design.

What have you enjoyed the most in your time with us?

I have enjoyed learning the different routes into the industry, learning about the different projects and sectors of the practice as well as the different roles within the practice.

What are the key things you have learned?

I learnt how to use AutoCad, SketchUp, InDesign and factors to take into account when doing a site analysis.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I'm interested in going to University to potentially study Architecture.
