Work commenced on Monday 15th June on the Ysgol Tirdeunaw

Jun 2020

We are delighted that the school project Ysgol Tirdeunaw started on site on Monday 15th June 2020. This new £11.5m school for YGG Tirdeunaw will be built on land fronting Heol Gwyosydd next to Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe.

Swansea Council, which is jointly funding the project with the Welsh Government, has appointed Morgan Sindall as the main contractor and along with Powell Dobson, we have been working together to develop the next stages of the project.

On Monday, Western Power Distribution commenced trenching works and Morgan Sindall are then due to move on site towards the end of July.

The new school is due to open in the autumn of next year though this will be subject to any further announcements and working restrictions which may be implemented in coming weeks and months.

YGG Tirdeunaw is currently based next to the former Daniel James Secondary School site at Heol Ddu and currently provides 420 full time places and 60 nursery places but the buildings are no longer suitable for the increasing demand for places at the school.

The new build, which is less than a mile from the current site and is also more central to the majority of current pupils attending the school, will provide places for 525 full time pupils and 75 nursery places along with a Flying Start initiative.

The project also includes a purpose built coach park that will serve YGG Bryn Tawe as well as a dedicated car park for staff.
