The Health and Wellbeing Hub integrates a unique breadth of activities in a single building, bringing together diverse user groups with the aim of improving outcomes for the Llanelli community, from health and wellbeing throughout the Five Stages of Life and the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act, to increasing education and employment opportunities.
The facility, accessed directly from the ‘street’ comprises a range of accommodation designed to provide flexible, state of the art community healthcare, telemedicine and medical research accommodation.
Working with Bouygues UK as the main contractor, reserved matters planning consent was achieved in June 2022.

Pentre Awel is the first development of its scope and size in Wales providing world-class medical research and health care delivery and supporting and encouraging people to lead active and healthy lives.
The Health and Wellbeing Hub integrates a unique breadth of activities in a single building, bringing together diverse user groups with the aim of improving outcomes for the community, from health and wellbeing throughout the five life stages set out in the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act, to increasing education and employment opportunities.
The 21,000sqm project comprises:
Leisure Centre: 25-metre competition swimming pool and learner pool; Eight-court sports hall with facilities for a range of indoor sports at competition level; Gym, Dance, Spin and Multi-purpose Studios; Hydrotherapy Pool available for use by NHS patients.
Clinical Delivery Unit and Medical Research Facility: Provision for Hywel Dda University Health Board to expand its research and medical engineering provision by focusing on community level clinical trials, linked to facilities on site; and provide multi-disciplinary care closer to home for a wide range of community-focused services.
Education, Research and Business Development Space: The research and development will help to push the boundaries of understanding of what it means to live well. Pentre Awel will be home to big science and small start-ups, established businesses and new kids on the block. Partners currently include Swansea University, Cardiff University and University of Wales Trinity St David.
