Mariner’s Quay
NEWPORTThe development provides 86 apartments and 15 mews houses on a narrow riverfront site in the Old Town Dock area of Newport. The scheme was a pilot project for the Welsh Assembly Government targeting a Code 5 rating under the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Features include a highly insulated airtight building envelope, a combined heat and power unit providing domestic hot water and on site electricity generation, photovoltaic panels and a biomass boiler to provide space heating.
Each home is accessed from a shared surface mews giving the ‘street’ back to the residents. Homes feature flexible accommodation with inter-changeable living spaces and bedrooms on both ground and first floors, whilst large sun spaces take advantage of passive solar gains.
