This 12,900 m2 corporate headquarter office accommodation for Caerphilly County Borough Council in Ystrad Mynach is a key development in the provision of improved Local Authority facilities in, and regeneration within, the Borough. The building provides the Council with offices, a council chamber, Registry Office and ceremonial rooms under one roof.
This new office space is uncluttered as possible by partitions, allowing maximum flexibility and removing ‘ownership’ of rooms by departments thereby providing shared ownership.  The design concept provides wings of open plan office space wrapped around a central full height atrium which contains a stand-alone oval core housing all the communal facilities.
The development has the largest ground source heating bore-hole installation in the UK and has a BREEAM rating of “Excellent.”  This is symbolic of the Local Authority’s commitment to sustainable development within the Borough and will centralise many of the Council services from aging building stock into a single building. Redundant sites will then be released for further development which includes a new Community Hospital.
