The proposal is to create a high quality destination hotel for visitors to York as well as providing meeting and conference facilities for local businesses. The hotel, a Hilton Garden Inn, is situated in a prominent part of the city adjacent to the existing Barbican building just south of the city walls and will comprise 165 high quality guest rooms, a restaurant, bar and lounge facilities as well as meeting, conference rooms and a small fitness room.
The plan form is a direct response to an extent permission and land transfer from the local authority. The building will create a strong sense of place and identity in its interaction with the proposed public realm, and its contribution to the streetscape.
