Sosban Restaurant is the conversion of the existing Pumphouse at North Dock Llanelli, a Grade II Listed building, and represents a vital historical reference for the overall North Dock re-development.
This building is the focal point of several view corridors, pedestrian routes, and benefits from dual aspect. To the east, it fronts the proposed Carmarthenshire River Walk and to the west, it defines one edge of a new piazza fronting directly onto North Dock.
The development brief was to create a quality 'destination' restaurant, and linked Welsh Chef Academy with Coleg Sir Gar.
Our design solution retained and restored the original stone buildings and introduced a new lightweight contemporary structure connected to the original buildings by a glazed link. This allows a visual link through the scheme from the riverside to the dockside, ensuring a sense of place is maintained throughout the development.
