This project was for 97 affordable units developed for Somer Housing Association and Redrow Homes for the first two phases of the large 77 acre, high density, mixed use scheme at Filton, Bristol. The mixed tenure units include 1 and 2 bedroom flats and 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses, each of which are SDS (Scheme Development Standards), Lifetime Homes compliant and are designed to achieve Level 3 Code for Sustainable Homes. Phase 1 form’s the western ‘Gateway’ where the units have a contemporary feel that reflects the more modern office developments on the surrounding office sites.
Phase 2 at the eastern ‘Gateway’ proposes a mere traditional aesthetic in response to the immediate context, but with some modern references. The remaining 4 phases will provide a further 278 affordable homes for Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
