Josh Kalia - Summer Intern Returns to University

Oct 2022

Josh Kalia joined our London studio in April 2022 to work with our team as part of his work placement.  Following the success of those weeks, he returned in the summer months to rejoin the team and has since returned to University.  Before Josh returned we asked him a few questions and here are his responses:

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am starting my third and final year at Newcastle University.  I have wanted to be an architect since I was 10 years old. In my spare time, I love to paint - especially portraits.

Why did you choose to come to PDA for your summer internship?

I was really interested by the vast range of projects completed by PDA, from residential through to retail and leisure. I thought this would be a great way to gain better understanding of the different areas of Architecture and discover what I am particularly interested in.

What projects have you worked on while with PDA?

Weoley Park Road, Birmingham, Blackfriars Residential Development and Heatherwood Hospital Site.

What have you enjoyed the most in your time with us?

It has been great getting to know the London team! Their support and insight from their individual experiences of studying, through to present jobs has been fascinating and helpful and often amusing too.

What are the key things you have learned?

Practically, I have expanded and refined my knowledge of software like AutoCad and Revit. My understanding of the role of an Architect within a project has somewhat changed, but has only refreshed my interest in the field.  Architects drink a lot of coffee!!

What are your ambitions for the future?

To spend the new few years working towards becoming a fully qualified Architect.  I would love to come back to PDA and work with everyone again! I would really like to study and/or work abroad in the future.
