RNIB Platinum Winner

Park View Close Sheltered Housing Refurbishment

Jul 2014

This Sheltered Housing complex in Llanharan received the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) Cymru 'Visibly Better' Platinum Award this week. This accolade is given to projects that demonstrate the highest standard in improving everyday life for people with sight loss.

The scheme at Park View Close is one of many that we are undertaking for RCT Homes in the Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, and this particular project was completed in December 2013. The project involved refurbishment and improvement works including the installation of a new passenger lift in this existing property. We upgraded the accommodation to comply with Welsh Government Housing Standards conversion from bedsits into self-contained flats. This entailed rewiring, fire improvement works, asbestos removal works, Equality Act and RNIB improvment works and installation of a new energy efficient heating system. We also remodelled and relocated the communal room, kitchen and laundry facilities, and created a new hairdressing room.

The external areas of Park View Close were also remodelled and improved, creating a sensory garden and seating area.

The improvements have been very well received by the tenants, and the property is fully let for the first time in over 10 years.
