The Grove Place Continuing Care Retirement Village consists of a Grade I listed Elizabethan Manor House and 115 residential apartments in its landscaped estate.
The existing Manor House provides the development hub with resident services, restaurants, lounge, billiards, library, activity room, cinema along with main visitor entrance and security control room. Alongside the Manor House are a number of small scale domestic buildings specifically designed to be subservient to this existing building, preserving vistas and views to and from it. The 4 no. Close Care residential blocks, pool/gym, laundry/hair salon/ nurses surgery are designed around small landscaped gardens, reinforcing the historic kitchen garden approach.
Overall, the key feature of the design was to ensure that the buildings were physically and visually integrated within the landscape as well as forming a sensitive and respectful relationship with the Manor House which remains central to the estate both in historical terms as well as its new communal function within the retirement village.
