Refurbishment of the Grade II Listed Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery, along with a contemporary new extension, comprising the relocated Brecon Library and new community and education facilities, including a cafe, shop, a tourist information hub, together with new common staff areas and storage.

The project was awarded Heritage Lottery Funding of £2.5m towards the scheme to support the restoration of the Old Shire Hall and Assize Court Building, the re-display and re-interpretation of the collections, the removal of the 1974 intrusive floors and the opening up of the original cells for the first time. The project also supports the expansion of the volunteer scheme and the development of new education spaces and programmes.

The comprehensive restoration and reinstatement of the Museum's exhibition spaces will provide an exciting backdrop in which to celebrate Brecon as a lively, exciting cultural and historical visitor attraction. The modern extension ensures local artists, schools and community groups benefit from spacious and accessible facilities. Together they form Brecon Cultural Hub - an exciting vision for the town.
