This Code Level 4 residential scheme was chosen as a pilot project for the group 'The Knowledge Exchange Fund - Modern Methods of Construction with the Welsh School of Architecture, Welsh Government and Building Research Establishment.' The scheme of houses and apartments was designed with a southerly aspect taking advantage of solar gains to offset heating, achieve good quality day lighting and sunny external spaces.
The design strategy was to develop a modular form reducing the carbon footprint within the construction process by utilising MMC principles.  A high percentage of the building fabric was prefabricated off-site, and renewable materials and local supply chains were utilised to their greatest potential. These factors improved the performance rating under CfSH, and will continue to benefit the residents through lower utility bills.
