This £24million regeneration project of the Ringland Centre in Newport with Newport City Homes is redeveloping the existing Ringland Centre. The concept is to create a new shopping area with new mixed tenure homes and shared space as a focal point for Ringland. It creates an opportunity to better connect the wider community uses to the new square and retail area including the community centre, health centre, labour club, MUGA and open space. The new square includes high quality hard and soft landscaping with street trees to provide shared public open space with parking and bus stops. The existing community centre is integrated with a remodelled entrance. The masterplan layout encourages permeability through active public streets and spaces into new square from the south east. Whilst it requires land not controlled by Newport City Homes, extending the site boundary to include other stakeholders creates the best opportunity for the successful regeneration of the Ringland Centre for the wider neighbourhood.
